If you do not have a Bitcoin wallet yet, start with a safe and regulated platform. Either of these two will do.
Open the add funds page, choose an amount and press DEPOSIT. You will be shown an exact amount and a QR code. In your wallet app choose "Send", scan the code, enter the amount exactly as shown, and confirm.

The amount is what identifies the payment as yours. Rounding it off means it cannot be matched back to your account automatically.
After the deposit is made it usually takes less than a minute to reach your balance. Sometimes, due to network congestion, it can take 15–25 minutes. Either way, your funds are safe.
